Artist statement
My body of work explores a rare neurological condition, known as Aphantasia which is a condition that impairs an individual’s level of voluntary mental image production.
The body of work not only showcases this personal condition, but in the process highlights and creates awareness for the viewer.
Having Aphantasia and being creative also challenges the notion that he condition is an impediment to the ability to work in the creative field.
Though I came to the understanding that I was unable to build an image in my mind like my peers who always had ideas in their mind’s eye as well as a goal to achieve within their works and thus by comparison I always chose to go with the more chaotic route, which consisted with having no idea in mind nor any expectations of a specified outcome.
I aspire to be an example of an Aphantastic creative individual.
