Artist statement
Azola Mpeta is a dedicated African graphic design student who is fascinated with African patterning, African appreciation, social impact situations, and the everyday life of township civilians.
Mpeta is a graphic designer who is fueled by the factors of life and tries, by all means, to use his skill as a graphic designer to raise awareness of social impacts that many seem to think are meaningless. He specializes in photoshop, illustrator, and in-design. Mpeta incorporates and develops African patterning into his artwork as he creates a joyful and fun visual experience that can be understood and appreciated by people of all races and ages.
Not only is Mpeta a graphic designer but he is also an illustrator who combines water colour, pencil, pencil colours, and fine liners. The patterning and use of colour have been a core fundamental of his identity as a graphic designer. Not only is he motivated by creating designs that are pretty, but also creating designs with meaning, and hopes that his design might spark a soul that makes a positive impact in another person's life.
The design that Mpeta hopes to creates will resonate with people of all races across the world, the young and old, rich and poor, and those who have hope for a brighter and better tomorrow. Not only is Mpeta knowledgeable about these daily factors which affect those who have nothing but it's also his lived experience that enables him to know what is culturally appropriate and what is not when it comes to including cultural elements in his design. These aspirations and factors give him the greatest tool to be able to use graphic design to bring about change and enlightenment to an audience who are ready to be given agency and hope through design.
